Setting up Shop Online

Posted By Admin on April 17, 2008 @ 5:46 pm

A friend of mine owns and operates a brick-and-mortar kitchen supply store.  They provide everything from kitchen accessories to kitchen appliances at prices that are very inexpensive compared to other businesses in town.

They have been doing some research over the past few months to see how well their business would do if they had an online division.  According to the research that they have done, their prices are similar and quite often cheaper than other retailers in their industry.

Then contracted a web design firm to design an online storefront for them and to find a company to provide them with the Internet merchant accounts that they will need to accept payment online.  Things are coming together very quickly and she is hoping to have the store open before May.

From the customers that she is mentioned her plans to, it looks like she will have a very positive response from her customers and should have no problems succeeding online.

Purchasing Tickets for a Big Show

Posted By Admin on @ 1:30 am

I heard on the radio the other day that there would be a big show coming to town.  Now, when I usually think of a "big show", I think of a music performer or band coming to town.  But this big show was slated to be something different.

What it was going to be was a troupe of fire eaters, jugglers and breathers that were coming to put on a show at our town arena.  We haven’t had a show this exciting in years, and I was sure that I needed to get in on it as it might be the only chance that we would have to see such a thing.

So, I went down to the box office to buy tickets, only to find a line down the block.  I knew that I wanted to go really bad, so I stood in line for five hours to get a ticket.

I just can’t wait to go see the show in a couple weeks when they are in town.  I am sure that it will be the most amazing thing that I will ever see.  I just know it.

A Breeze for Me

Posted By Twyla on April 16, 2008 @ 3:27 am

Being a college student is one of the greatest things I have ever been in my life. I absolutely love it and I do not feel that the coursework is too much, as many of my friends and peers do. High school was very easy for me, and though college is a lot tougher, I still do not find it to be all that menacing.

The biggest difference that I have found is that there is so much more essay writing involved than there was in high school. I find this to be time consuming, as I have never really had to study for exams before, but I do not get off that easy when it comes to writing essays.

I decided that I was just going to breeze through my essays as soon as they were assigned. I think this has really helped, as most people scramble right before they are due and by then, I am finished with the materials and literature needed to write the essay.

The Secret to our Happy Marriage

Posted By Twyla on @ 2:58 am

Every morning as we sit to breakfast I asked my husband what his stock pick of the day is.  We have been doing this for years and it has become so much a part of our routine that I would be completely lost without it.  It would be like a morning without toast and jam.

One of our hobbies that we like to do together is to research stock.  We have been doing this a long time before we’re married.  We had probably been only dating for a very few short months when we decided to start doing this.  It started just for fun and has since become a very serious part of who we are as a couple.

We are usually in pretty good agreement when it comes to our stock research and it is something that we decided very early on that we would never fight over.  I think it has made us stronger as a couple because I know I love him so much more for caring about our future and investing wisely.

Fitting in, in Another Crowd

Posted By Twyla on April 15, 2008 @ 7:05 pm

Our city hosts and annual twins and triplet’s sale, in which all parents of multiples can try to get rid of things that they no longer need or want. I like to get in on the sale because they usually have some really great deals and I love getting deals.

At the last sale, I bought some Jetsons Halloween costumes and a bicycle for my son. The prices are really amazing and I try to buy clothes for my kids that will last for the whole year. I am usually pretty successful. My kids are always very well dressed and I never have to buy them new clothes.

The people at the sale always joke with me that I definitely should have had a set of twins or triplets because I fit in so well at the club. I don’t mind the teasing because they are really great people and are a lot of fun to hang around with.

Too Frugal

I was at the mall with my friend the other day, browsing around at different things. We had her little girl with us in her stroller and we were just having a good day visiting and drinking coffee together. I was enjoying it, as I don’t get out socializing very often between school and work.

We were walking through some children’s clothing stores and I was amazed at some of the prices. I was wondering who would buy expensive designer baby clothes for their baby when they were just going to outgrow them almost as soon as you bought them.

I guess a lot of people must buy them for there to be a market for it, but I think that they are crazy. When I have a baby, I am going to shop at thrift stores and buy cheap clothes. I think it makes much more sense for the mom to buy designer clothes for herself.

Not a Fun Wait

Posted By Twyla on April 14, 2008 @ 5:37 pm

My husband and his friend decided that they were going to go see a movie that was just opening up on Friday night.  This was all good with me, but my husband worried as most shows that are just opening are sold out by the time he gets to the theater.

I had to take my daughter out that afternoon to get her hair cut and my husband asked me to stop and pick up show tickets on my way home.  I thought this was a good idea and I went to the theater straight from the hair salon.  To my dismay, I had to wait outside for an hour before the theater opened.

I decided not to drive home, as by the time I got there it would be time to turn around and go back.  It was a very interesting hour sitting in the car with a two-year-old who had just gotten her hair cut and had missed her nap.  Boy, was I glad to get home.

Sharing Our Artistic Talents

Posted By Admin on @ 1:58 pm

My wife and I have one thing in common: we are both artists.  In fact, we met each other in art school and have not looked back since.  Though we have done a few graphic design jobs, we thought that if we started a graphic design company we could both spend time doing what we love.

Before we decided to do this though, we needed to research are potential competition to see if the quality work that we did was as good or exceeded the services they offered.  Looking online, we noticed that the graphic design firms in town did not offer work at the same level as the designs we create.

We decided that we would try and offer our services online first and provided that they were successful, we would open up a store in town.  We are just making the finishing touches on our website and hope to launch it in the next week.  We decided that will give this project a three-month period to become profitable, and should that not happen we will shut it down.

If everything goes well, this business will be our opportunity to share our artistic talents with the world.

Keeping My Scholarships without Overexerting Myself

Posted By Admin on @ 8:17 am

I was a straight A student in high school and received many scholarships to go to college.  I thought college would be just as easy for me as high school was, but I was in for a surprise.  You see, I didn’t really know how to study at all and then I failed my first college exam.

I was very afraid that I would lose my scholarships especially if I started failing more than one exam.  So I needed to find a solution that would free my time up from doing assignments and instead let me focus on the class to give me more than enough time to study.

I was able to find a website that sold management essays, arts essays, and sociology essays which were the three classes I was taking this term.  By ordering essays, that would free up a large amount of time that I could spend studying to ensure that I would be able to keep my scholarships.  Also, with the time I saved from writing essays, I would never be exhausted in class.

Needless to say my plan worked out very well and I was able to keep my high average and scholarship this year in college.

A Fond Farewell

Posted By Twyla on April 13, 2008 @ 10:12 pm

Last week, my favorite professor from college passed away.  It was a really sad time for me, as she and I were fairly close.  I don’t think I would have ever finished my thesis if it wasn’t for her.  She was always there to give me an extra push when I was ready to give up.

In fact, if it wasn’t for her, I never would have been working on a dissertation in the first place.  She is the person who encouraged me, more than anyone else, to take my education to the next level.  I would even go as far as to say, that she was one of the best friends that I have ever had.

Saying goodbye to her was one of the hardest things that I have ever had to do.  It ate away at me even more than my guilt did when I purchased a few custom term papers for one of my classes.  I will always remember her for the great times we had and the great encouragement she always offered me.
