My First Sale Online

Posted By Admin on June 23, 2008 @ 12:06 pm

It was just a couple of months ago that I had my first sale online.  Now, it wasn’t more than twenty dollars, but it was a step in the right direction.

I didn’t get to this point overnight, but there was some training involved.  You see, I had followed an affiliate ebook marketing course for a couple of weeks to get our heads around what we wanted to do.  Without the proper training, there is just no real guarantee of success.

Now, what we did was come up with an ebook of the best affiliate programs at the current time.  It was a lot of research, but we came up with a good list of programs based on reviews by many affiliates and blogs online.

It didn’t take too long to get the site marketed and underway.  But it did take awhile before we did make our first sale - and it sure made my day!

Nothing to Worry About

Posted By Twyla on June 12, 2008 @ 3:15 pm

When my best friend asked me to be the maid of honor in her wedding, I was really scared. I was not scared to be her maid of honor, as we had planned this since we were little girls. What I was scared of, was the fact that she was getting married in South Africa.

I had never been out of the country at this point and I did not know what to expect. I was worried about everything, from getting sick to getting lost. I think that I watched more medical tourism videos while I was preparing for the trip than anyone has ever watched before. I was going to be prepared.

As it turns out, I was worrying myself sick for nothing. I was honored to be there for her and I had an experience that I will never forget. It has changed me in a way that I cannot even put into words. It was definitely the most outrageous thing I have ever done and I think that I have grown as a person.

Branching Out

Posted By Twyla on June 11, 2008 @ 4:01 pm

When my husband and I were venturing into the world of Internet business, one of the things we wanted to do was start some free online dating sites. We were constantly trying to set up friends and most of the friends that we did set up, ended up together.

So many people thank us for introducing them to their soul mate and we thought that this was a gift that we should share with the world. It was a big step for us and I was more than a little bit nervous at the prospect of playing with people’s hearts, but it was a risk I was willing to take, on the chance that we could help people find happiness together.

We started out with a site that would help people find local singles. We thought it was best to start from a local standpoint and then branch out, if it was successful. It has been and we have over seven sites up for seven different cities now.

Getting a Good Laugh

Posted By Twyla on June 10, 2008 @ 11:02 am

I was about fifteen when I built my first webpage. It was nothing brilliant, but it was a page about me and designed by me. At the time, I was very proud of it and I thought it was a brilliant way for my out of town family and friends to see what was going on in my life. It was cute and fun, but it looked like it had been built by a teenage girl.

When I decided to go into professional web design, I would have been mortified if any of my clients had seen that first page I ever created. I did some formal training on the subject and then I started my own business. I teamed up with a logo design online company, as I wanted to have someone creative on my side to do the actual illustrations.

I have come a long way since that first page about me. It is not up on the web now, but I have saved it, just so I can go back and see what I was like when my life was much simpler. I get a good laugh at it, and sometimes, that is just what you need.

Some Light Reading

Posted By Admin on June 9, 2008 @ 11:00 am

I like to start my day with a bit of light reading.  Today, I slept in a little bit, but I still need to do this as it is the routine that I am used to.  I usually read for about an hour a day, and that is what I intend to do today.

Currently, I am reading Stock Split Secrets, by Darlene Nelson, and I have been reading it for the last week.  I have been looking for ways to make my investments work a little harder for me, and this book has been giving the answers that I have been seeking.

What I like about the book is that it details the same investing strategies that the pros use, so it allows me to take advantage of the same things that they do.  Add that to the fact that I will be able to retire sooner by following these strategies, and I feel that it is a cook book to riches.

Well, I better get reading - I have a lot of things that I need to do today.

Annual Picnic

Posted By Twyla on June 8, 2008 @ 2:07 pm

When it was time for our annual Sunday School picnic this year, I was asked to come up with some fun ideas to keep the kids entertained. I had a fabulous time putting together some obstacle courses, making the difficulty of them vary according to the ages of the children.

One of the suggestions that were brought up was that we rent some inflatable slides to put out in the church parking lot. I thought that this was a great idea and it turned out to be the highlight of the event for several of the kids that were there.

After the picnic, my kids asked me if we could get one of those slides for our yard. I explained that it would take up entirely too much room, but I am glad that they enjoyed themselves. We may just have to make the slides a part of our annual event.

Working with Her Hands

Posted By Admin on June 7, 2008 @ 12:12 am

My sister has always been good with her hands.  You should see her play the piano, build a bookshelf, or even paint.  In fact, I would have to say that she is one of the most talented people that I know.

Now I will be honest here, she isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed.  I guess her lack of academic skills is made up with her ability to do anything with those hands.  I can remember that she was very sad when she was not accepted into college and she didn’t know what to do.

But thankfully, my mother came to the rescue.  She suggested that she should enroll in one of the local massage schools in town and do something that she would be good at.

Now, years later, she owns her own massage parlor and does very well for herself.  In fact, she has been voted the best in town for five years in a row now - all I can say is good for her!

Local Radio Clubs Offer Discounts and Presale Information

Posted By Jenn Brockman on June 6, 2008 @ 1:46 am

Most of our local country radio stations recently ran a promotion with presale passwords in order to get tickets before the general public could buy them. If you signed up to be a radio club member on one station, you got all sorts of information on events before the rest of the community knew about them.

This worked out great for those who signed up because they could buy tickets to concerts put on locally by very big name country music artists before they were sold out. Some of these concerts are extremely hard to get tickets to and I’ve heard of ticket scalpers getting nearly 3 times the ticket price! Of course scalping is illegal, but it still happens according to my sources.

So, no matter what kind of music fan you are, it would be worth checking into your local radio stations to see if they offer any similar clubs in order to get information and discounts on events before they release to the general public.

Looking for a Hosting Solution

Posted By Admin on June 5, 2008 @ 8:47 pm

With my last web host shut down, I don’t know what I am going to do with the few sites that I own.  Thankfully, this one isn’t affected, but I need to have some sort of hosting if I am expecting to make any money over the weekend.

It doesn’t help that I am strapped for cash at the moment, and am running short of options.  Without much choice, I will have to look on a search engine for a solution.

After a bit of hunting, I think that I might have come up with a solution: free PHP hosting.  According to the reviews that I have read about their site, it should be the best solution for my circumstances.  They are reliable, fast, and have a good support team - three things that will help me to succeed.

So, I just have to change the nameservers at my registrar and we should be all set… thank goodness.

Material Girl

Probably more than any other status symbol, a limousine exudes wealth, luxury and “having it all.” Most such vehicles in my part of the country are hired by average people who pretend, if only briefly, that they’re a part of the so-called “good life.” The irony is, if you ask them, many will tell you they wish they were rich enough to own their own limo and employ a chauffeur

But few stars who arrive on camera at movie premiere events don’t own their own limousines or employ personal drivers. If you’re Kelly Ripa or Regis Philbin, for example, you may ride to work in one every day, but doing so is a perk provided by the studio, and the driver comes with the car. In New York City, where parking is always an issue, it just is not practical for stars to own and maintain and pay a chauffeur to drive a vehicle that costs about the same as an average home in middle America.

But I know that no matter what I may say, all the facts in the world about limos will not change people’s perception of them. And perception is everything.
