Heres a little piece of philosophy that will probably make a lot of sense, especially if youre scientifically-minded. If you dont change a behavior, that behavior is going to continue bringing the same results. Its simple! Its true!

If you dont change anything, of course you can expect to get the same results! Thats a claim that can be supported by science.

One of the more popular theories in the world of personal development has to do with NLP, or neuro-linguistic programming. To oversimplify it, its a discipline based on the theory that we as people develop ideas about ourselves through our experiences. As such, if we change certain negative ideas about ourselves, we can overcome these self-imposed limitations to become happy, healthy individuals, and to meet our respective goals.

How do we do that? Heres an example. Successful people tend to think of themselves in positive ways, even before they experience great success. Their personal development has brought them to the point where they can find the confidence within themselves to make their dreams possible, no matter what the odds. They do this by visualizing what they want, and then staying focused on that goal. The let their small successes as they reach for the larger successes be their guide as they continue to strive toward their dream.

Another good example of successful behavior, and one that ties in very well with the last point, is problem-solving behavior. People who have achieved this in their personal development dont run away from problems. They run THROUGH them, which serves to strengthen their confidence. People who run away from their problems tend to have a very low sense of self worth, and as a result, they let their problems overwhelm them.

Dont be that person. Always remember, the definition of success is the overcoming of adversity. That means that in order to be successful, by definition, you are going to solve some problems. Probably a lot! There is no success without resistance!

One more way to boost self-confidence is to practice an attitude of gratitude. People who do this basically remember to take time each day to remind themselves of what they have, and what they can do with it. Lots of times, when we are in uncharted territory, it becomes easy for us to believe that we are lost and wasting time. Its easy to believe that we are in way over our heads. Just relax, and go back to looking at all the reasons you should succeed, instead of reasons that you should fail. Remember, if you focus on obstacles, youre almost guaranteed to let them get you down.

Appreciate your friends, your family, and if that isnt an option for you, appreciate where you are right now and what it took to get there. Chances are, things could be a lot worse right now, and as a result of an action that YOU took, you avoided that other, more negative scenario. Successful people very often feel grateful for what they have, and their positive energy only creates more success.

Everything that has happened to you, from the good fortune to the bad fortune that you were able to learn from. (One big step in your personal development could also be not to look at any experience as completely negative.) What you have is a recipe for what makes you a unique individual, especially equipped to fulfill your own potential. Youre undoubtedly going to have a list that makes you happy, to realize that within you is the ability to take charge of your own personal development and move forward. Thats the first step in healthy personal development, the kind that creates success.
