Amistad: This film is based on the true story of an unsuccessful mutiny aboard a slave ship in 1839 bound for the US. The subsequent trial would put the entire foundation of the US legal system on trial. The Juror: Gloomy and, it turns out, psychopathic underworld compute Baldwin victimizes an unsuspecting Moore so that she can teeter associate jurors into acquitting a Mafia manager. Coal Miner’s Daughter: Towels-to-wealth tale of nation singer Loretta Lynn is amid the best lyrical bios ever made, albeit very last quarter does skid over some “down side” details. Cast includes Sissy Spacek, Tommy Lee Jones, Beverly D’ Angelo, Levon Helm, Phyllis Boyens, and Ernest Tubb. (125 minutes, 1980)

Blood Rage: Grinning, sword-wielding, blind Vietnam vet Hauer whittles up poor gentlemen, spares a baby, and even fights with his mentor in this brash, vigorous although floundered try to Americanize Japanese “Zatoichi” films. Hauer is impeccably cast, and the film is amusingly tongue-in-cheek, however it doesn’t entirely work. Cast includes Rutger Hauer, Terrance Terry O’Quinn, Brandon Hail, Lisa Blount, Charles Cooper, and Rick Overton. (86 minutes, 1990)

Marley and Me: Johnny and Jenny Grogen have moved to Florida to start their new life together. Jenny is ready for children, but John isn’t so sure. Instead, he gets her a puppy, Marley. Marley turns out to quite a bit to handle.

Under Siege: The soon to be decommission battleship the Missouri s under siege. At stake are the nuclear warheads still aboard the ship. With a former CIA operative leading the enemy, only the ships cook, a former Navy Seal is the only an left who can stop these weapons from falling into terrorist hands.

About a Boy: A self possessed man, living in his own selfish world, finds himself befriending a 12 year old buy who is living with his very depressed mother. The friendship they develop allows both to grow. The film stars Hugh Grant, Nicholas Hoult, and Toni Collette. (2002 Comedy-Drama)
