First Time Camper

Posted By Twyla on April 7, 2008 @ 2:15 pm

My husband is an avid camper.  He has been camping his whole life and has very fond memories of many of his campouts.  To my dismay, shortly after we started dating, he suggested that I take a camping trip with him and his family.  The reason for this is I am very much a city girl and I could not imagine spending a night in the wilderness.

I finally gave in and told him that I would go.  I certainly was not expecting the wall tents that we had to sleep in.  I figured I would at least have four walls around me and a roof over my head.  I was disgusted that I had to sleep on the ground and was very concerned that a bear was going to come eat me.

We can all laugh about it now as camping is now one of my favorite pastimes as well.  We take our children camping every summer and I find that with every camping trip, I become a little bit less the city girl I once was then a little more rough and rugged.

Addicted to Spyder

Posted By Twyla on April 4, 2008 @ 7:23 pm

I have become an addict. I went, as a chaperone, with my son’s youth group to play paintball and now I am hooked. I love to go and play and even when I can’t get out, I find myself surfing the web for sites on paintball and paintball supplies. It has become an addiction, but it is not hurting anyone.

I have not bought my own supplies yet, but I know what I am going to get when I do. I really love the Spyder paintball supplies and I have their website bookmarked. It is so exciting for me and it has given me something in common with my son, who is totally into this as well.

I think for Christmas this year, I will get a couple of Spyder guns and we can challenge each other out in the snow. I know that he would be totally into this and I would actually be surprised if this is not what he asks for as a gift this year. All I know is that when I open mine up, he better run.

The Most Popular Searches

Posted By Admin on April 3, 2008 @ 11:06 pm

Having owned a number of search engines in the past, sometimes I feel like looking at popular search results from other sites to see what interesting things come up.  If you haven’t done this before, you should try it out since sometimes you can find yourself rolling around the floor laughing hysterically.

I decided today to look at in Australia business directory and look at their most popular searches.  I was hoping to find something to brighten my day, makes me giggle a little bit, and put a smile on my face.

Sadly, that wasn’t going to be the case.

As it turns out, there is really nothing funny about the top searches, I guess the site is just a little too serious.  I did look at a business innovation site and spend some time at a diamond brokers site as well.  Though they were interesting top search results, they were just not what I was looking for.  Maybe, I’ll try another site tomorrow.

Summer Camp Antics

Posted By Twyla on March 22, 2008 @ 8:13 pm

Some of the fondest memories I have of childhood are the ones from summer camp. I went to the same camp every summer, from the time I was seven until I was in my later teens. It was fun to go back and see the same friends every year and we always had a blast. It was like a whole other life for me.

One of the games we had going amongst our group of friends was to see who could get away with the most and see who would be the first person to make a counselor in training cry. It was never me, but I did try my best. I remember one of the guys in the group emptying a cheap bottle of cologne under the floorboard of the counselors’ cabin and then watching them try and figure out where the smell was coming from.

We had such a blast. It sounds like we were bad, but really we were just kids having a good time. Those were the good old days and in the end, when we grew too old for camp, even the counselors were sad to see us go. But, we handed our annual traditions onto the younger campers and maybe they are still growing strong today.

I Can’t Get Any Worse At Golf

Posted By Admin on March 10, 2008 @ 2:20 pm

For those of you out there that have seen me play golf, well, don’t laugh.  I know that I am one of the most horrible players out there.  I mean, does a hole in eighteen constitute as good?

Alright you now know the truth.

But, just because you are bad at something, doesn’t mean you can’t improve.  So with that hope in mind, I have enrolled myself in a Florida Golf School in a couple of months.  This will give me a chance to get better at the game I love.

What I do like is that the Academy of Golf offers this professional golf instruction at a reasonable price.  Which is great for someone like me that doesn’t have a large budget to work with.

So, we will see what I can pickup at the golf lessons – it would be nice if people didn’t laugh at me for a change.

The Internet is Celebrity Gossip Central

Posted By Twyla on January 7, 2008 @ 11:51 pm

I don’t know about you, but sometimes the lives of celebrities interests me.  I know that we idolize them to some extent, but I find that reading the latest net gossip is a great way for me to keep up with their lives – kind of like keeping up with the life of your friend.

Sure, I use the Internet for other things too like reading entertainment reviews and getting the reviews on the latest movies, but really, what else is there to do online?  Besides, I don’t think that if I were to put up a site about my life, anyone would show any interest.

But, when it comes to celebrities many people show interest.  In fact, you can share what you think at ratingzone when it comes to celebrities, music, movies, and pretty much anything else.  In fact, I would say that this site allows me to do my favorite thing online – share my opinions and ideas.

Fun at Lunchtime

Posted By Twyla on December 23, 2007 @ 7:28 pm

I can’t complain a lot about my job.  It is great, with good perks and in all honesty it is fun.  The boss isn’t too bad either and really makes the job fun.

But what I really like the most about our work is lunchtime – it is the "fun-est" part of the day.  You see, each day, we have competitions to see who is the best at a selection of online games.

Last week, we were all competing for the best casino games player.  I won at poker, but didn’t do so well at roulette.  By the end of the week, there was a tie between three of us workers.  This week, we decided that it would be the tie breaker.

I am definitely looking forward to the challenge.  You see, we will be playing a little Donkey Kong and Sonic.  These classic games I played as a kid, and as long as I am not too rusty, it should be okay.  We’ll just have to see how good my competitors are.

I just can’t wait until Monday’s lunchtime – that is when the fun for the week begins.

I Love My iPod Video

Posted By Twyla on December 11, 2007 @ 1:04 am

Alright, I’ll admit it: I love my iPod Video.  How can I not?  It holds so many songs, and movies to watch at lunch, and even some pictures of my dog.  It is my constant companion since giving up my CD player just one short year ago.

I also love the expandability of iPod.  In my case there are hundreds of different iPod Video accessories available for purchase: everything from custom cases, to crazy home theaters with iPod docks.  Personally, I just have and FM transmitter for iPod and a travel charger – that’s it.

The only problem I have ever had with it is when I first bought it, I had problems initiating an iPod to computer transfer.  I was able to get it sorted out after talking to their online phone support.  It was just a bad install of iTunes that I was able to fix.

I wonder how I survived before iPod – it seems like that was so long ago.

Birthday Present for My Brother

Posted By Admin on December 7, 2007 @ 12:46 pm

My brother just recently turned the big 27 and I needed to get him something for a present.  He had expressed interest in World of Warcraft (WOW) one time when he saw me playing it.  He suggested that if he had an account we could play together and that became the moment that helped me pick out his present.

I took a look online to find a place that I could buy WOW accounts – I wanted him to be around the same point in the game as myself, so that we could play together.  I figured too that a little WOW gold wouldn’t hurt either, so I bought him some of that as well.

Seeing that he would be starting later on in the game with me, I figured he might be a little lost.  I knew of a few WOW guides that would fill him in on what he missed and give him some tips and strategies in terms of how he should play, so I bought some of them as well.

I will be giving him his present tomorrow – and I am sure he will like it.  Funny thing is, I don’t think his girl friend will like it – I am sure she will have a hard time getting him away from the computer.

Simple Distractions for me Online

Posted By Admin on November 28, 2007 @ 1:20 pm

In life I am pretty focused.  When I choose to do a task, I focus on it and nothing else matters.  This focus has helped me to succeed where others have failed – I can get things done quicker than most people.

My one weakness is the Internet.  Specifically, the fun games you can find online on many arcade websites.  You see, I really never played many video games as a child, so they are kind of like my Kryptonite and make me lose my focus.

I am especially weak when it comes to fun action games and fun puzzle games.  Whether it be shooting some bad guy, or solving a word puzzle, these games entertain my brain in ways that work never can.  I can sit and spend hours of my life playing games and get nothing done.

So, what I have done is setup a timer that I start when I do sit down to play a game that shuts my computer off after an hour – that way, I don’t waste my whole day playing games.  At least it should work in theory….
