New Televisions are Missing One Key Thing

Posted By Admin on September 3, 2008 @ 11:40 am

If you have seen the new plasma and LCD televisions on the market, I would bet that you would agree with me that they are definitely a step ahead in terms of picture quality and size compared to the old tube televisions.  Even with all these praises, there is one thing that they are missing:

Effective TV screen protection.

Unlike the old tube televisions that had a glass screen, these new televisions mostly have softer screens that can be easily damaged, destroying the picture quality and your experience watching your expensive television.

Thankfully, you are now able to buy a TV screen protector that protects the screen from damage for an inexpensive investment.  Maybe in the future it will be included with the televisions, and then they will be perfect.

I’d like a PSP too

Posted By Jenn Brockman on May 31, 2008 @ 12:20 pm

My future step son got a play station portable last holiday and hasn’t put it down since. I even played it and have to admit it is pretty fun to play. One of the best features is that it offers wi-fi access to the Internet too so on a trip, I can check in using it, rather than my laptop if I need to.

I’ve seen offers for a free PSP and and free accessories by joining a site and responding to offers. I wasn’t sure if they were legitimate though and have done some research on line to find out. It appears that several sites are legitimate but you do have to either fill out information for offers or participate in some way in order to get the free stuff.

I’d love to get a PSP for myself. Shh, don’t tell my kids, they’ll laugh. I enjoy playing some of the games also but I’m not very good. Of course, my step son is the best. He can beat nearly anyone he plays against.

Keeping Up with the Times

Posted By Admin on May 23, 2008 @ 2:13 pm

One thing that I have noticed over the past few years is that if you don’t keep up with the world, you get left behind.  I look at my sister-in-law that just purchased her first computer, and she doesn’t even have a clue on how to use it.

The same thing goes for all the new technologies on the market.  You might not know that there is something that is available that you should purchase as it would make your life easier.  So, if you don’t know, I feel that you are doing a disservice to yourself.

So, I make sure to keep up with all the latest gadget news, to make sure that I not only know what is coming out, but so that I can make informed decisions when I go shopping.  If I didn’t do it, I would be missing out on life.

Do you keep up on the latest products, soon to be hitting the market?  You should.  You just don’t know what you might find.

The Future of Our World

Posted By Twyla on March 9, 2008 @ 12:46 pm

I am a firm believer that it is our job as parents, to protect the world for our children. We try to do whatever we can to make our world more efficient and that is why I decided to get as much OLED information as I possibly could.

I know, with what I have heard and read about it, that there will be as many products with AMOLED display in our home as can be possible. I am actually hoping that the rumors are true and that OLED could put an end to the use of light bulbs. What a great thing it would be for our children if everyone used energy efficient lighting.

I was talking with my husband about all I had learned about OLED and he suggested that we should get an OLED flat TV as soon as they are available. I laughed with him and told him to keep dreaming. He retorted by saying he would make that kind of sacrifice for the environment. What a gentleman.

Curious About the iPhone

Posted By Admin on February 19, 2008 @ 1:32 pm

With all the buzz that has been over the Internet and television, I really wanted to check out what an iPhone had to offer me - and why I should consider getting one.  Though most of the iPhone news that I had read was positive, I still needed to make up my own mind as to what I thought about it.

So, I made the point of going down to a mobile phone retailer to see what all the buzz was about.  There I was able to see the iPhone first hand and I fell in love with it.  It was sleek, shiny, and just about the coolest thing I had ever seen.

But, I wanted to know more.  The sales clerk showed me some of the iPhone accessories that I could get to go with the phone.  It seemed that there was a huge selection and I felt quite overwhelmed by it.

I was a bit excited about the next thing that the sales clerk showed me: iPhone games.  I have always been a bit of a video game addict, and the games I was shown were the best graphics I had ever seen on a mobile phone.

Though I am not sold on the iPhone yet, I sure feel that I might just need to get one someday.  It would sure be a nice toy.

My New Toy

Posted By Twyla on February 5, 2008 @ 4:42 pm

I just got my first cell phone and I am interested in getting some new cell phone ringtones for it. I don’t want them to be the same as everyone else has. I like to be unique, and for this reason, I want a unique ring.

I looked up a few sites on Blackberry ringtones, as this happens to be the phone that I purchased. I was overwhelmed by the response of this search. I did find some amazing and unique ones. They are definitely not tones that anyone I hang around with has. It was like Christmas for me.

I also checked out the various Verizon ringtones. Again, there were hundreds to choose from and I did not know how to narrow down my decision to just a few. I think I am going to spend more time downloading ringtones than actually talking on my phone. But, hey, I am having a lot of fun doing this.

Phoning For iHelp

Posted By Twyla on January 2, 2008 @ 9:31 pm

The other day, I was browsing online at accessories for my iPod. I was particularly interested in some software so I could transfer a DVD to iPod Touch. I located it quite easily and purchased it, but was having technical problems getting it to download properly.

While trying to troubleshoot, I came up with lots of tips on iPod Nano conversion, but didn’t come up with many results for my Touch. I thought that the problem may be in the software or that I had perhaps downloaded it incorrectly, so I erased it and reloaded it.

That still did not work, so I broke down and called the Mac support line. The guy I talked to was very helpful. He suggested that I download the iPod classic DVD converter and then upgrade this download with the Touch software. I tried this and it worked. So, I can now successfully watch movies on my iPod Touch.

A Taste of Technology

Posted By Admin on December 27, 2007 @ 3:58 pm

I have been surfing around the web to find some new technology that may find its’ way into your life really soon.  I found a couple worth mentioning, so take a read.

Do you have a mobile phone?  Well quite a few people do (okay, lots of people) and it pretty much goes with them wherever they go.  Quite often, if you are popular, you may find that the standard phone book or text message box is not quite big enough for you.  Fear not, as there have been some SIM applications that have been developed that solve these problems.  If you have a GSM phone, it can be as simple as talking to your mobile phone provider, and they can upgrade your SIM chip for you.

Another cool thing on the horizon is the ability to use your computer as a point of sale terminal, similar to what you would use for payment in a store.  Thanks to the newer smart card encoding techniques used on bank and credit cards, you will be able to use chip card readers hooked directly to your computer to secure your online purchases.  No more punching in a credit card and risk your number being stolen, but instead, your transactions would be just as secure as shopping in a brick and mortar store.

I Love My iPod Video

Posted By Twyla on December 11, 2007 @ 1:04 am

Alright, I’ll admit it: I love my iPod Video.  How can I not?  It holds so many songs, and movies to watch at lunch, and even some pictures of my dog.  It is my constant companion since giving up my CD player just one short year ago.

I also love the expandability of iPod.  In my case there are hundreds of different iPod Video accessories available for purchase: everything from custom cases, to crazy home theaters with iPod docks.  Personally, I just have and FM transmitter for iPod and a travel charger - that’s it.

The only problem I have ever had with it is when I first bought it, I had problems initiating an iPod to computer transfer.  I was able to get it sorted out after talking to their online phone support.  It was just a bad install of iTunes that I was able to fix.

I wonder how I survived before iPod - it seems like that was so long ago.

Looking for the Best Mobile Phone Provider

Posted By Admin on November 20, 2007 @ 2:11 pm

I have had a number of mobile phone providers over the last few years and let me tell you they are not all equal.  Some of them offer good service, good reception, and good incentives whereas others just plain suck.

I also like to look at what incentives are given if you signup for different lengths of mobile phone contracts - sometimes a long contract can be worth it.  Now, some of these rewards are too gimmicky - say like getting a Frisbee for example (and yes, I have one from a provider - don’t laugh).  What I have been looking for is something substantial - some incentive that makes signing up all worthwhile.

So I ended up checking out Orange mobile deals.  They have some exceptional offers going on right now - with some phones you can get a Nintendo DS, and they even have a few that offer cash back - something that everyone needs.

Don’t just get suckered by the incentive, it still pays to do some research on the company to ensure that you get a good provider as well.  But a little gift, never hurt, right?
