Baby Car Seats Safety

Posted By Rochelle Normski on May 4, 2009 @ 4:43 am
by Rochelle Normski

Grocery store shopping cart handles have more germs than public restrooms, making them one of the worst public places for germs, according to researchers and you touch them probably two or three times a week, but so do thousands of others.

How germy could shopping carts really be? Very, according to researchers at the University of Arizona who tested all kinds of public surfaces. They found that shopping carts were loaded with more saliva, bacteria and even fecal matter than escalators, public telephones, and even public bathrooms. The only surfaces that had more germs were playground equipment and bus rails.

Why Shopping Cart Covers? Baby grocery cart covers are the new must have baby item!!! Grocery cart covers will protect your infant or child from the germs and bacteria lurking in the seats and on the handles of shopping carts. The Shopping Cart Cover Shop is dedicated to your satisfaction, offering true craftsmanship at substantial savings.

We strive to carry the largest selection of baby shopping cart covers and are continuously searching for professionally made baby shopping cart covers to carry in our store. According to the CPSC, injuries result when children climb or fall out of shopping carts because the restraint system was not being used, children unbuckled or wiggled out of the restraint, or the restraint was missing.

Yes, there is a correct way in which to secure your child in his car seat. How you secure your baby in the car seat will likely depend on the age and size of your baby.

But best of all, online stores like Amazon.com allow a graphical rating system that gives the opinion of the buyer in a nutshell. Amazon currently uses the 5-star system, which posits that 5 stars is the absolute best review a person could give to a product, while half a star is the absolute worst. And when you want to know how well a product works for a consumer, no input is better than the one provided by a fellow buyer!

The t-shield is a padded triangle that latches at the crotch while the overhead shield comes down from over the head and latches at the crotch also. The safest harnesses are the five or six-point harnesses. These prevent excessive movement of the baby in crash situations. The t shield and the over-head shield allow for too much room and could cause your baby to be ejected from the car in a crash.

Check for coverage. If your main concern is “germ defense,” look for a cart cover that encases the entire seating area–the handlebar, sides, back, and front. Consider comfort. Cleanliness aside, shopping-cart covers can make for a cozy ride. If that’s important to you, look for a deluxe model, which usually has extra cushioning and maybe even an attachable pillow.

Blogs- Tell you a lot about a Kids Camp

When you are trying to get a good feel for what a summer camp is like it is a good idea to check out the Summer camp Blog. Here are just a few things you might find at Swift Nature Camp’s Blog. Camp Blog

What do you know about Wisconsin? Chances are you imagine cows, Harley Davidson motorcycles and the beautiful capitol of Madison. Yet, north of all that is the Northwoods of Wisconsin. Filled with all its natural beauty. In the sky you can see eagles all around swooping down to catch a fish in a nearby lake or stream. If your quiet you might just hear a loon or a wolf in the background. This is what America looked like 100 years ago. Until you experience the simple beauty, you can’t begin to imagine what you will find there. Wisconsin is also home to many children’s summer camps. Choosing a summer camp in Wisconsin offers your child a chance to experience nature and the environment unlike any other place in the Midwest. At Camp Nature Swift your child gets the opportunity to play, make friend sand learn new skills, all this in the warm sun of the wonderful northwoods of Wisconsin.

Charter into new waters this summer. For many kids, coming to camp is a big adventure! One of the biggest challenges is swimming in a lake. We all have had experience swimming in a nice blue pool. There is security in being able to see the bottom of the pool. Lake swimming is to enter the wild water and to cross a border. You pass the lake?s edge and you break the surface of the water itself. In doing so, you move from one realm into another: a new realm of freedom, adventure, magic and occasional danger. Watch out for those Turtles and Fish! Swimming in open water is a new experience that’s not to be feared, but embraced. Once you feel comfortable swimming in a lake, the world will open up to you and wherever you see water you will see a new adventure waiting. Swift Nature Camp Summer Camphas over 1500 acres of water right out your cabin front door. At Swift Nature Camp we have a wonderful swimming area full of fun toys, not to mention Wally (the water trampoline) & Sally (the slide). “Free Swim” is one of the most anticipated times of the camp day, but “Instructional Swim” is there to help give you build the confidence for those free swims. You can even earn American Red Cross Swimming levels

Catching frogs from camps own beaver pond is a huge camp sport at Swift Nature Camp. it is a challenge too. The big Bull Frogs put up a big battle to free them selves. We even have a favorite bull from the biggest meanest frog of them all JIMBO. Yes he is our mascot and is pictured on this page. Catching frogs is one of favorite things to do at this children’s summer camp. One of the best hunting spots is the lamp poles at night. You see the frogs come up from the pond at night looking for food and all the bugs hanging around the light will do just fine. One might wonder are you eating all these favorite catches. Nope they gan spend on night up at the Nature Center Zoo where they hang with the other animals anc catches then its back to where they were caught at. Next summer, join us for some serious frog catching.

So what can you do a camp that you cant do at Home? How bout shooting guns? Yep, one of the fun activity at this kids camp is riflery. This is one area at camp where there is no clowning around. We take teaching riflery very seriously. It may be a tradition at many summer camp. But we are very proud that our riflery range is our safest area at camp. At Swift Nature Camp we only shoot at targets and we shoot from the prone position (thats lying down) , our guns are single shot .22 caliber rifles. Our campers try to earn our camp Marksman awards. Often parents ask why have rifles at camp? The answer is …we want to teach children how to properly and safely operate a gun. Campers also learn life lessons, like you need to practice and as you do practice bit by bit, you improve and before you know it you are loving Riflery.

We at Swift realize the importance that campers feel special while at camp. That is why we have created a special First Timer program for children who have never been to camp. Our goal is to help children feel self confident while quite possibly being your child’s first extended time away from home. We do this by having extra staff on hand for each and every camper needs. We are extremely proud of the fact that during Discovery Camp we limit each cabin size to only 8 campers with 2 staff members. That’s only 72 campers (ages 6-12) and 26 staff members ! We also have an Orientation Day, when campers not only get a tour of the camp, complete with a visit to the Health Center and the Mail Box, but also go to each activity area learning about safety in that activity. Within the cabin our staff works hard to promote a nurturing and harmonious friendships. This starts with a Respect List for all to agree to and sign and each night ends with a bedtime story. Due to the fact that all campers are new to this camp they are all on equal ground right from the start. We encourages each child to learn independence in a safe, age appropriate non-competitive environment. Our twelve day program is the perfect length of time for your first time camper to gain autonomy, leaving their homesickness behind, and feeling comfortable with their new-found independence. For many campers the greatest lesson camp teaches is that they can leave home, return days later and very few things will have changed, especially your love for them. Swift Nature Camp’s Discovery Program is the perfect match for any camper that’s a little concerned about leaving home for the first time.

Baby Furniture Cribs – What Kind to Get

Posted By B. Fraley on @ 5:36 am
by B. Fraley

If you are in a place where you need to shop for a crib for your baby, it can be very easy to get overwhelmed. There are lots of things to think about, after all!

Always make sure that you consider how the crib design is going to work when you factor in things like space and who might be coming into visit the baby. Do you have a lot of room to move around? How big is your budget?

Let’s go over the different types of cribs available:

The Standard Crib is the one that you see everywhere. It is rectangular, though the height will vary, and they tend to have a single or a double drop side. This refers to the fact that one or both sides can drop down and give you quick access to your baby.

Only get a double crib when the crib is going to have both sides open to the room; it’s pretty useless when you are looking at a crib that is shoved against the wall.

The Convertible Crib, on the other hand, can be a great investment to make in your child’s future. A convertible crib typically has a higher upfront cost than a standard crib, but you will be able to use it for a much longer expanse of time. With the right model it can be converted into a day bed, a toddler bed or even a full sized bed.

Typically, what happens is the head and the foot of the bed can be pulled apart and turned into the head and foot for a full bed. Consider looking for a universally simple design. Look for one that you can continually paint and decorate when you are looking at keeping your baby’s room decorated.

When you are looking for elegance and just a little bit of Old World charm, consider what you can do when you are looking at choosing a Canopy Crib. A canopy crib is a crib that has a post coming up from each corner, and over the posts, you will put a cloth covering.

You can either purchase fabricated canopies to go with your crib, or might even decide to design your own, using fabric you already used elsewhere within your nursery decoration. Canopy cribs may also be a viable choice if you keep your baby’s crib in your bedroom, or the baby shares its room with a sibling, as they provide a way to achieve privacy for your baby.

Only lately have we seen a new crib design – the Round Crib. Their popularity is on the rise and they are especially comfortable for your baby, allowing it to sleep in any position. Just like a standard crib, the round crib typically has a drop side, providing easy access to your baby. Unlike traditional rectangular cribs, round cribs have no corners of concussion points to endanger your child’s safety. They provide your baby with an exciting view of the world in all directions.

No FM Radio For Iphone

Posted By Peter de Walt on @ 5:11 am
by Peter de Walt

iPhones have great amount of features and have tools that are way ahead of standard cell phone. Add this together with its ease of use and great styling, you have a winner. It also comes with the best of Web 2.0 display and toys.

In fact, the iPhone has many things going for it, but does it have FM radio for iPhone? But for some reason when apple were adding the digital camera, web access to Google maps and all the other cool features, the FM radio was not on the list

Out Of Date

Actually the main reason why there is no FM radio for iPhone is that today, the interest in FM radio is less than in the past. The Internet and TV are dominating the market for eyeballs. This is especially true when you consider the target market Apple is aiming at – young people with disposable income.

After all, it is not the fifties or sixties when radio was central to entertainment and information distribution. Now days the Internet is the first step for most people looking to find out information.

Another possible reason why there is no FM radio for iPhone is that the radio is not a very personable device. It can be a disruptive influence in our lives rather an asset. Of course, if the iPhone had been around when the Sony walkman was invented, chances are that there would certainly have been a radio.

In fact, the Sony walkman had become popular with the public before a radio was added to it. This lack of a radio in the original Walkman can be seen as a reason why manufacturers have not included FM radio for iPhone.

Still, you might wonder if the iPhone can have Internet connectivity, then why is there no FM radio? After all, the iPhone is multi-media should have indeed been included. The answer to this may lie in the fact that there is always iTunes to listen to and thus there is really no need.

However, it is only Apple that can best answer that question. The reasons for omitting this feature would no doubt be due to practicality or maybe lack of need. However, consumers have yet to be informed by Apple regarding and so we can only guess as to the reason why.

USA Summer Camps

Historically, summer camps have been an American institution since the early 1900′s. In the early days camp was all about getting youngsters out of city life and enjoying the clean cool air of the country while learning camping skills.

Today, summer camp has progressed from campfires to computer screens and from nature trails to rollerblade rinks. In fact, many of today’s camp programs take place in the heart of the city.

At camp, children are given the choice to take risks and try new things. This voluntary nature makes children more open to new experiences, with personal satisfaction as their motivation. Not only are there opportunities to try new things, but camp offers many areas for children to excel in.

At a good general interest camp, the non-athlete can shine at arts and crafts, woodworking, or dramatic programs, while the athlete can also find many outlets for their skills. Perhaps most importantly, the two campers learn to live together and become friends despite their varied interests. Environmental Camp

Camp offers children many opportunities to become competent. Practicing both new and old skills on a regular basis, it makes sense that there will be improvement. Novices have chances to learn, while those who are more experienced can improve. Learning new skills and improving on old ones builds self-esteem. Children become more independent and self-reliant at camp with their new skills.

Though years later, your child may not remember capture the flag games or the words to a camp song, the life lessons learned at camp will remain. At camp, a child learns how to take responsibility. The child who has never before made a bed, will learn how to smooth out sheets and blankets and tidy up a cubby. Though counselors will remind and encourage, campers quickly take responsibility for personal hygiene, and for more minor health issues, a camper learns to articulate what hurts and how to get help. All of this personal responsibility further fosters a sense of independence and self-esteem. Camp also improves a child’s social skills by making new friends and learning how to reach out to strangers.

At camp, children learn to get along with others, all while living together 24 hours a day, learning about courtesy, compromise, teamwork, and respect.

For campers from a foreign country Camps in USA provide a uniue opportunity for children to learn about America from local Children in a fun and safe environment. Not to mention the English language is spoken daily.

Free Summer Camp

by Lonnie Lorenz

Camp can be just as educational as school, with the added dimension of children learning through experience. Through activities and play, children learn a wide range of skills and develop physically, emotionally, socially, and intellectually. At camp, children learn by doing, living, and experiencing things for themselves. It’s one thing to watch a nature program on television, but quite another to experience nature in real life.

Overnight camps can be expensive, even if the experiences are worth it. You can afford to send your child to summer camp just consider the following thoughts.Free Camp

Families that in the past have sent their children to private upper end overnight camps, especially on the east coast, are now looking at alternatives that might be far less expensive. One suggestion is to look in the midwest for a camp that might offer very similar activity programs at a cost 25-30% less than the equivalent east coast camp.

For many you may need to change your private camps look to alternative programs that might be similar to what you have done in the past yet less expensive. This is just a matter of shopping on the internet for price. See Swift Nature Camp as a wonderful value camp.Adventure Camp

For other children the answer may be to leave the private summer camp programs altogether and choose a less expensive overnight camp program, such as a YMCA or a even a church program. These summer camps can save nearly 30% or more compared to the private camps.

In most local areas park districts offer some form of day summer camp. These are usually the most cost effective, however, day camps generally do not offer the same array of activities and benefits that an overnight summer camp provides.

Discounts and campership programs are available from most Camps. However, it does not make Camp free. Individually, camps decide how to run their discounts. So, ask the camp director how their particular program runs to see if it will help your situation.

The ACA (American Camp Association) recommends: * Parents should ask whether the camp participates in income-eligible subsidy programs, for instance through Title XX. * A Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account allows parents to be reimbursed on a pre-tax basis for child care or adult dependent care expenses for qualified dependents that are necessary to allow parents to work, look for work, or to attend school full time. Visit the FSA Feds Web site for more information. * In certain circumstances, day care expenses, including transportation by a care provider, may be considered dependent care services and paid with pre-tax dollars. Visit the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for more information. * Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit: The IRS allows an income tax credit of up to $6,000 of dependent care expenses if you have two or more dependents (up to $3,000 for one dependent). The amount of the credit is based on your adjusted gross income and applies only to your federal taxes. This applies to qualifying day camp expenses as well. Visit the FSA Feds Web site for more information.

All camps are not the same and cost is often reflected in quality of programs. Do your homework to ensure a quality experience for your child. Camps can cut costs by useing volunteers while others have paid staff. Generally speaking camps have more control over paid staff. Also asl about counselor-to-camper ratios to determine how many campers are sleeping in each cabin with how many children. It’s best if counselors are over 18.

Total cost of the camp is not only tuition, but transportation, canteen and spending money, laundry, off-site trips, and uniforms (if required). So look at the toal package. Ask the director about how much of a deposit is required and if it is refundable. When must the camp fees be paid in full? Ask about refunds. What the policy is if the family’s plans change and they withdraw the child from the program before the start of camp? What if problems arise during camp and the child must come home?

Safety is the most important area of any Summer Camp. Regardless of cost, you want to ensure that your child will be safe and will return home at the end of the program. One way to make sure your selected camp is safe is to verify that the camp is an accredited member of the American Camp Association. The ACA ensures that over 300 standards are met in their accreditation process.

Lastly, It is important to try to remember the experience of being a kid. Summers are long, and the experiences at camp create a lifetime of memories. For many adults, these recollections are some of their fondest. Do what you need to to suit your needs, but don’t let this summer pass your child by without a Overnight Summer Camp experience

Children Everywhere Collect Plush Toys

Who doesn’t want to play with Elmo, Webkinz, Soft Animals and remember what it was like to be a kid? Relive your childhood by collecting the hottest plush toys out there on the market. Adorable animal style toys are available, they are great fun to play with.

I’ve walked into adult rooms and seen upwards of 20 teddy bears. It’s always a bit odd to see such a large collection of children’s toys in an adult room, but these days it’s becoming more popular. Everyone wants to hold on to their childhood, so why not keep your favorite bears with you at all times.

Sesame Street is a hit with the 2 year old to 5 year old cohort. Kids this age love to play with Oscar, Elmo, Big Bird, Snuffalufagus, the Count and Cookie Monster (though Cookie Monster might not be the best role model).

Like your plush toys, to be cute, soft, furry and just plain lovable? If so you most definitely want to start collecting Beanie Babies. Beanie Babies are such a hit and can sell for upwards of $100 for some of the rarest ones. Start your collection today.

Pixar and the other anmiated studios have been distributing merchandise right alongside their movies for years now. Cinderella, The Lion King, Wall-E, Cars and Ice Age are just a few of the movies that have spawned plush toys and they remain extremely popular long after the move has gone to DVC.

Care Bears are timeless toys – many people have Grumpy, Glitter, Glow and even the 25th anniversary bear. Care Bears can bring a smile to even the most grumpy adult – give one to your kid and they will thank you for sure.

Webkinz are extremely popular – there are so many shapes, sizes and clothes to collect, these have become a must have for the 6-12 year olds. With the online world, you can purchase your Reindeer, Frog, or poodle Webkinz and then get the same toy in the online world when you enter the code.

Backyardigans have that ever so catchy theme ditty that everyone loves to sing along too. If you haven’t purchased your first toy then why not go out and suprise your kid now.

The Magic Of Scale Radio Controlled Aeroplanes

Posted By Robert Oak on @ 6:12 am
by Robert Oak

Can you afford to buy and maintain a full sized aircraft, especially a valuable vintage model ? If you can then read no further.

We, mere mortals, get our kicks from flying radio controlled aeroplanes and in particular scale models.

My own passion and that of many others is for models of fighter aircraft of the last one hundred years or so. We associate these with the great aviators that flew them, from world war one aces like Manfred Von Richofen, the top allied pilot of world war two Marmaduke Pattle (yes that really was his name) to the extraordinary German Erich Hartman who destroyed no less than three hundred and fifty two of his foes.

To recreate a Fokker Triplane or WW11 Meschersmitt in miniature form some very talented craftsmen have constructed models that show extraordinary attention to detail. Having made sure that every last nut and bolt have been faithfully reproduced these model makers will sometimes add the odd scuff mark, stain or paint chip in their quest for maximum realism.

I am thinking here of static models to be found on display everywhere from a prestigious museums to some ones display cabinet in their living room. One problem; they never take to the air.

An aircraft is a flying machine and needs to be up there, climbing, diving and rolling. It comes alive when the motor is started and is hand launched or takes off from the ground. Scale radio controlled model aeroplanes are, for me, the answer. Make them as realistic as possible but make them fly !

By making a radio controlled model aircraft an accurately scaled down version of the real thing you can expect it to perform in a very similar fashion to the full sized plane. I should look like, fly like it and perhaps even sound like it. This scale modelling brought to life.

It is true, of course, that a flying model is much more likely to get damaged than a static museum version, in fact the results of a prang can be terminal. However I think the thrill of flight makes the risks all worth while.

Electric rc planes have brought a whole new dimension to our favourite hobby. By using the latest brushless motors and lightweight, yet powerful, batteries we can enjoy rc planes that can be propeller or jet driven. Does this mean they are slow flyers ? Far from it, there are prop driven scale models doing 30 to 40 m.p.h. and jets achieving speeds of 90 m.p.h. or more !

No fuel to spill and ruin the planes paintwork or catch fire. Less noise to upset the neighbours and yet a full 10 to 15 minutes in the air on a single charge. Scale electric radio controlled aircraft, are huge fun and can do anything their liquid fuel cousins can but with less fuss.

Flying a real Meschersmitt or Triplane may never be possible but we can all pilot our own electric rc scale version whilst it performs spins, rolls, hammerheads, loops and inverted flight, all under our command.
