I am a Happy Wanderer

Posted By Twyla on May 16, 2008 @ 4:14 pm

As my husband and I run our own business from our house, we are able to do a lot of traveling.  Our business is Internet-based and so as long as there is Internet we can work.  We spend a lot of the winters in Florida and Texas, as we know that we will eventually have children and we will not have the freedom of traveling when they go to school.

We ended up buying a fifth wheel trailer that we pretty much live in all winter.  In the summertime we use RV storage Philadelphia and we get a really good rate as this is when most people pull their RVs out of storage.

I really enjoy our way of life and the fact that we can just pick up and leave whenever we feel like it.  But, by the time we got home for the summer I am ready to just enjoy my house and my garden in my yard and am very content to just stay put for a while.

Considering Building Decks on our House

Posted By Admin on May 13, 2008 @ 4:52 pm

You read the title right, we are considering building two wood decks on our home.  The way that the house is designed, we can have decks off of the master bedroom as well as our dining room.  I think that it will look very nice once it is done, but there is a lot of work to do before we get there.

With the housing boom in our city, we might run into problems getting contractors to do the deck for us, as well as securing reasonably priced materials as well.

But, we are going to try and go ahead with it anyway.  We have already picked out the two deck stains that we are going to use, and it looks like we might get underway as soon as we can find a contractor.

It will be nice to see the final product - I bet our house will look awesome!

Preparing for the “Just in Case”

Posted By Twyla on May 12, 2008 @ 12:36 pm

I have just purchased a life insurance policy on both me and my husband. I know that if something were to happen to him that the kids and I would be in really big trouble. I am a stay at home mom and so the only income that is coming in is through my husband’s job. Without that, we would be unable to survive.

The policy I bought has a large enough payout that it would support me and the kids until they are all teenagers, at which point I could return to work. It will also cover their University tuition when the time comes. My husband agreed that it was the proper thing to do.

The policy on me has a much lower payout, but would cover childcare expenses, as well as the kids’ college tuition. It gives me a much better peace of mind knowing that everyone is going to be taken care of should something happen to either one of us.

Problems with my Card

Posted By Admin on May 10, 2008 @ 7:58 pm

Through most of my life, things have gone smoothly with my credit cards.  I always make the payments on time and I make sure to keep my spending to a minimum.  But there was one point in my life where I had some problems with one of my cards.

Things all started when I made a payment at the bank on the due date for my minimum payment.  You see, it was close to closing time at the bank, but I was lucky enough to get in just before it closed.  But, I had to wait in line to make my payment, and then I was on my way.

The problems started when I went to the gas station to fill up my car and the credit card processing device on the pump declined my card.  I had to go inside to talk to a clerk as I was so embarrassed that it had happened.

I went home and made a call to the credit card company.  As it turns out, they froze my card as they didn’t get the payment that I had made at the bank earlier.  I learned that I need to make my payments early so that I don’t have any problems using my credit card anymore.

My Favorite Shirt

Posted By Admin on May 9, 2008 @ 10:34 am

I don’t know if it is part of my genes, but I really don’t care for many types of shirts.  In fact, I hate to wear turtlenecks, sweatshirts, and even dress shirts.  I guess it should come as no surprise since my parents never wore any of those things at all.

So, all that leaves me with is golf shirts.

Well, I guess that it should come as no surprise that this is how I turned out.  You see, my parents owned a golf shop that sold the same shirts that I love, and that was where they bought us kids clothes.

Sometimes, my wife gets a little freaked out when all she sees are my golf shirts in the closet, but I hope that she loves them.  I have even bought some for my son, so he can look just like his daddy - something I have always dreamed of.

Your Secret Life

Posted By Deb Gallardo on May 8, 2008 @ 11:55 pm

No one knows you’re living a secret life. You keep it hidden at work, from your family and friends. If any of them finds out, you’ll lose your job, your friends will desert you, and your family will be so ashamed they’ll never speak to you again.

And then you do something really stupid. Somehow you got so totally wasted at home one night that you got into your car and two blocks from home you got pulled over and nailed for DUI. Your house of cards is tumbling down.

And then, something unexpected happens, a kind of a back-handed miracle. Your best friend sends you an email the next morning. “Thought you might be able to use this information. Maybe now you’ll get help. Here are some searches I did  for you: Tampa DUI Lawyers, Tampa DUI Attorneys and Tampa Drunk Driving Defense Attorneys. We’ll get through this together.” Yea, a miracle. Then the finally tears come.

Moving On

Posted By Twyla on May 6, 2008 @ 2:44 pm

My husband and I are at the point where we are ready to buy our first home.  I don’t actually know for at that point but we’ll soon be evicted from our home as the area in which we live has been bought out by a developer and all of the residential is going to be turned into commercial and industrial buildings.

The housing market in the city that we live in has hit a boom in the last few years and the price of housing has skyrocketed.  Our biggest fear is that we will not be able to afford a house here and that we will have to leave the city that we love to find affordable housing elsewhere.

We still have our hopes up that we will be able to buy some repossessed property at a fraction of the price that most of the properties are going for these days.  I know our kids would be really disappointed if we had to move away and they would have to leave their friends.

Bad Laundry Man

Posted By Twyla on May 3, 2008 @ 1:09 pm

I am convinced that you cannot teach a man to do laundry. I do not know how many times I have told my husband that he cannot put my bras in the dryer. He has ruined so many of them and I am frankly getting sick of it. I decided that I would just not let him do laundry anymore. He is now on dish duty.

He even managed to completely destroy the sexy lingerie that I had bought for our honeymoon. I was devastated and I think that may have well been our very first fight as a married couple. He put them in with a red sheet and turned my snow white lingerie pink. I am sure it matched the color of my cheeks when I saw it.

He has apologized for all of it and I completely forgive him, but enough is enough. He has promised to never do laundry again and I think that will keep us both happy.

Helping My Sister with Insurance

Posted By Admin on May 2, 2008 @ 12:35 am

Since my sister has just moved out of my parents house, she has been having some new experiences.  Things such as paying bills, finding an apartment, and driving herself around.  I must admit that she has done a good job adapting to her new life, but she did come to me for help.

You see, she received a California Life Insurance quote in the mail and she didn’t know if it was a good deal or not.  She wanted me to read it over to see what I thought.

Honestly, I have never really been good with these types of things, but I have a friend that sells life insurance for a living.  I asked him to take a look and tell us what he thought.

As it turns out, it is a good deal for the price and I think that she will sign up.  It feels really good to help my baby sister out.

Storing My Stuff

Posted By Twyla on April 29, 2008 @ 1:41 pm

Last year, I made the decision to go overseas and teach English as a second language. It is something that I had wanted to do since my cousin went to Japan when I was in high school. When I decided to go, I knew I had a lot of preparations to make and I knew I would rent a self storage unit for my stuff and get rid of my apartment.

I did not figure it would be a good idea to pay rent on an apartment that I am not using when I could rent storage units for my stuff at a fraction of the price. I needed two units to hold all of my boxes and furniture, as I was not sure that I really wanted to get rid of anything.

I had a friend, who happened to own a truck come with me to rent a self storage and he helped me move all of my things into it. I have been here in Asia for over a year now and the decision I now have to make is whether I want this to become permanent.
