The Modern Life Of Buying Concert Tickets Online

Posted By Ian Sawyer on May 28, 2009 @ 5:54 am
by Ian Sawyer

Gosh, I can still remember my first parent-free concert experience which occurred in 1990, when I was 17. I went with a handful of friends to see Canadian prog-rockers Rush at the Worcester Centrum in Massachusetts. I remember sleeping in my friend’s beat up Toyota Tercel in front of the Centrum in the early hours of the morning the tickets went on sale. Back then we didn’t have cell phones with speed dial, and we certainly didn’t have online access to ticket websites.

As the sun rose, we stumbled out of the car and took our place in a small line that was forming outside the box office. We stood, bleary-eyed, in line for hours and waited for the tickets to go on sale, excited by the prospect of getting front row seats to our favorite band. At 10 a.m., when the box office opened, a grouchy older woman reluctantly and slowly began accepting cash-only for tickets. Back then, $20 was a fortune to a high school kid, but one that was well worth it. Needless to say, we didn’t get front row seats. In fact, we ended up in ‘nose bleed’ balcony seats. But the show-the sound, the lights, and the songs-were incredible.

As time went on, I would go on to wait in line for other concert tickets as a young adult, but clearly things have changed in the last 18 years in regards to how tickets are bought and sold. Technology has made it possible to purchase great seats for great concerts without even leaving the house. However, with ticket prices skyrocketing to as much as hundreds of dollars per ticket, there is obviously a price to pay for such convenience.

Nowadays, the easiest way to go about obtaining concert tickets is to get online the moment they go on sale, which is usually at 10:00 a.m. on a Friday or Saturday. Repetitious clicking of your browser’s refresh button starting at 9:59 should secure your place in the digital queue no matter where you are, or what you’re wearing.

Having a plan and communicating with other concert-going friends at their own computers further ensures that at least one person will have access to great seats. Registering and establishing account information with ticket websites beforehand can speed up the process and prevent the possibility of being ‘dropped’ from the queue for taking too much time entering credit card information. Believe me, there’s nothing more frustrating than being offered fantastic seats to your favorite band, only to lose them because you couldn’t type fast enough.

You will see that the growing trend in the world of online concert ticket sales is the option to buy during a ‘presale.’ More and more bands are offering memberships to fan clubs that announce pseudo-secret presales that occur a day or two before the actual public sale. Some people believe that this is just another way to fleece music fans as it usually costs around $40 just to join the fan club. And there’s no guarantee that you’ll get the best seats anyway. However, some online fan clubs (one for a huge Irish band comes to mind) offer other incentives, such as a ‘free’ t-shirt or a ‘free’ CD of rarities. So, online club memberships just might be worth it for rabid fans with plenty of disposable income.

Keeping with the theme of Internet-based concert ticket purchasing, getting on ticket website email lists will keep you informed of any show in your area that may be of interest. It used to be that you would hear of an upcoming concert from a radio ad or from fan-base word of mouth. Being the first to learn of an impending Rolling Stones concert, for instance, was a source of pride and power that would impress others. On the other hand, missing a concert of great importance was also a possibility. These days, registering with major ticket agency websites or with your local event venues will keep you in the know, and make sure you never miss seeing your favorite band in concert ever again.

There are some occasions where you have missed the presale and the public sale, and find out that the only tickets left are behind a giant pole, you do have other options. Post-sale ticket agencies have decent tickets to just about anything. However, they sometimes tack on considerable fees and mark ups. If you have the money, this is usually the last ditch option to get concert tickets to popular shows. You can also try auction websites, as they have become a haven for scalpers to get rid of tickets for high prices. Either way, the price some people will pay for their tickets reflects the true power of a live performance and the effect it has on music fans.

Taking into account the technological advances of the Internet age out of the equation, some people still prefer to get their tickets the old fashioned way-by standing in line at the venue or other local ticket agency location. There’s an excitement and electricity when standing in line next to other hardcore fans, and camaraderie and new friendships are often forged. This is a more organic and hands-on approach to buying tickets. If you choose this route, be sure to wear a vintage concert t-shirt and have your cash handy. Those friends you’ve made in line will quickly become enemies if you hold up the queue by trying to pay by check or credit card. In the end, maybe it’s better to remain in the comfort of your own home or office, jump on the computer, and login to a site that house various concert ticket sales in one location.

- Find out about various music groups and schedules or itineraries of various bands.

- With the Innovation of new of technology we have lot of people young and old getting hooked to the internet, thus music forums provide a platform for people to network themselves through these forums just as they did before the growth of technology by word of mouth.

- People majorly join forums to learn and talk to other composers about their working processes

- Music Artists who also upload their songs may find some good critics about the work that has been done.

The above list is never ending there are many benefits also like - There are lots of opportunities for Music Artists but there are even more number of Music Artists so these kinds of forums help the Music Artists to get into touch with members of their ilk for some good opportunities. It is not to say all the musical composers’ world over would come and join the forums or the music chat rooms and give their contacts but networking is also key in the music industry. You might not get in touch with the major people but definitely worth trying. All budding Music Artists world over can upload their music for at no cost so that people listen and appreciate the talent. The music made can be discussed over the music chat rooms. The mobile phone pretty much made phone booths a thing of the past. Now many of us wonder how we ever got along in the world without being able to make a phone call whenever and wherever we want. Then it got even better when we got the bigger, more powerful smart phones like the Windows Mobile, that multifaceted hand held device that allows us to phone, text, get online and do it 24/7, anytime and anywhere we happen to be.

Were also crazy about our iTunes, that fabulous total music mobility device. But we were frustrated because we couldn’t sync our iTunes with our Windows Mobile device. There’s a cool new app that remedies that problem and allows you to sync your iTunes with your Windows Mobile device, which lets you have all your favorite iTunes 24/7 on your Windows Mobile device. This app is called TunesSync for Windows Mobile. Because, admit it, you’ve just got to have all of your music in your pocket all the time.

All you do is to choose your music playlist (non-copy protected) in TunesSync and it completely and seamlessly syncs all of your favorite tunes to your Windows Mobile device.

PocketMac is the company that created TunesSync for Windows Mobile so you can sync all of your iTunes to your mobile device. PocketMac is run by two brothers who’ve spent the last ten years brainstorming new, creative ways to expand the Macintosh computing system. In case you haven’t guessed, the Goggin brothers are complete Mac fanatics. One brother, Terrance, is the design wizard and the other bro, Tim, runs the marketing end of the company.

TunesSync for Windows Mobile works so that every time you connect your mobile device to your PC, TunesSync automatically syncs the music you’ve picked. And you don’t need to fret about losing your free space on your hand held device because the storage card sync feature allows you to sync just to your storage card, if you choose to do it that way.

The Amazing Power Behind A Live Music Concert

Posted By Ian Sawyer on @ 3:08 am
by Ian Sawyer

When you are considering the power of Live music, it’s easy to be quite literal. For instance, I remember attending a Tool concert at a small arena in Massachusetts around the time they released the popular Lateralus. My girlfriend, at the time, and myself took our positions on the general admission floor somewhat early and were present for a bit of the bass tech’s sound check. Each strum of Justin Chancellor’s significantly tuned-down bass guitar actually seemed to lift us off the floor and make our hair stand on end. I found it quite exhilarating.

Well, my girlfriend was reduced to a nauseous mess even before the concert began. She claimed it was the Fast-Food we ate before the show that drove her, vomiting, to the women’s room as Tool took the stage. Days later, when talking to a friend who knows a thing or two about the science of sound, I confirmed what I had suspected: it turns out that incredibly powerful low-end frequencies can effect the physical constitution of a concertgoer. Tool had claimed the stomach of my girlfriend.

Live music can be powerful in a philosophical sense, as well. I’ve attended plenty of concerts where the next morning I felt a hollow sadness, and a longing to relive the previous night’s glory. The hours before, during, and after a great concert can transport a music fan to a whole other world, regardless of any booze, drugs, or other chemical enhancements.

An intimacy is established with not just other concertgoers, but with the band itself. Why else would generations of Grateful Dead fans dedicate much of their lives to following a group of hippies around the country? Live performances are moving, both physically and emotionally.

As time goes, in live music history, a lot of things have changed since those early days of, say, Woodstock. Venues of every size, shape, and character have included speakeasy-like basements, local clubs, sports arenas, outdoor pavilions, and even massive stadiums. Through it all, the concentrated community that is established during each live show has maintained a unique electric bond. Sure, peaceful sway dancing has been replaced with the visceral, and sometimes violent, crush of sweating bodies.

Surprisingly but true, cell phones have replaced lighters as a fan’s beacon of light. And general admission ‘mosh’ pits have replaced seated floor plans. Still, fans remain bound together under one raftered roof, held together by the occasional audience-sweeping spotlight, and the glorious chorus that everyone knows by heart.

The exciting audience makes each song their own as they sing along and pump their fists to the music. This, in the end, is the true power of live music-that it brings together masses of people who wouldn’t otherwise give each other a second look or moment of acknowledgement. Whether in the brooding darkness of the club, or in the brilliant afternoon sunshine of a football stadium, when our favorite band is onstage, we all rock together as one.

Gibson Les Paul Guitars - Why Does Paul Continue To Get Screwed

Posted By Tim Beachum on May 25, 2009 @ 4:09 am
by Tim Beachum

No one really knows the truth behind the creation of the Gibson Les Paul guitar. According to the most popular belief it was created by the Gibson Guitar Corporation and the legendary pop star, electronics inventor, and jazz guitarist Frean Donni. The electric guitar craze started with the Fender Telecaster. In order to capitalize on this craze James Verdon who was the president of Gibson Guitar at the time brought on Les Paul as a consultant.

It was said that Verdon had decided to hire Les Paul because it was well known that he had been experimenting with various guitar designs for years. Paul did have a prototype that he called, “The Log.” Some experts will tell you that this was the first solid-body Spanish guitar ever built.

Another fact that not many know is that Les Paul had pitch his prototype, “The Log” to Gibson, but his design was rejected. Things changed in 1951 when the same design became a collaboration between the Gibson Guitar Corporation and Les Paul.

As the years continue to pass by there still remains a controversy regarding what significance Les Paul’s actual contributions were to his Gibson guitar design. Some experts say that Paul’s contributions were limited to two pieces of advice. The first was on the trapeze tailpiece, and the second was his preference for color.

According to Gibson’s president Ted McCarty the Gibson Guitar Corporation only asked Les Paul for the right to imprint the musician’s name on the headstock to increase model sales. McCarty also stated on record that the discussions with Les Paul were isolated to the tailpiece and the fitting of a maple cap over the mahogany body for increased density and sustain.

Over the years I personally realized that people have continued to minimize Les Paul’s contributions to the world famous guitar which bears his name. Why this is I’m not sure since the first version Gibson and Pauls guitar was simply entitled, “Les Paul”.

Guitar Chords Chart for Learning the Basics

Posted By francois arcoix on @ 4:01 am
by francois arcoix

If you want to play as many of your favorite songs as possible, learning the basic chords of which there are 10 or 15 will help. The background of songs are made up of chords which are accompanied by other instruments. Now, you are probably asking what is a chord. The chord is three or more musical notes which are played together.

On a guitar this would mean three strings are strummed if there are three notes in the chord you want to play. On a guitar the number of notes that may be played in a chord is at the most six because this is the number of strings. There are three groups of chords - Minor, Major and Seventh. Of these three each one has its own mood. The minor chords are melancholy. The major chords are steady and the seventh chords are upbeat and less stable.

There is no standard number of chords that everyone can agree on but the general feeling is there are 8 to 18 chords that anyone who is going to play guitar should know. These chords should be the first ones you learn because they are used in basically everything you will be playing. When you learn these chords you can play rock, country or jazz and enjoy learning many songs.

Ok, what are the basic chords? The must learn ones for beginners are the minor and major chords of E,A,D and C and G major chords. The way these chords are played is by at least one string in the chord not being pressed down. This is called an open chord. Frets are what you do when the fingers on your left hand hold the strings down and the right hand strums the chord.

The easiest chords to learn for a beginning player is the open chord. Basic chords consist of Am, A, C, Dm, D, Em, E, F and G. When playing these chords if you use a guitar chords chart you will see exactly where your fingers are supposed to be on the guitar to play the chord. Newbie guitarists often use this method to teach themselves to play.

One of the most used methods of teaching the chords is by families. The family is mixed to play chords that are the basis of many songs that people play today. By learning the chords in this manner the learning is more fun and each one is learned in a sequence. This makes it easier to remember them as they are learned. Learning the families will allow you to learn and play music for yourself faster.

There are many songs that are based on three chords. The process of studying and trying every chord you can find is going to do nothing more than confuse you. When learning to play the guitar for the first time mastering the easy chords is the step you need to learn in order to start playing right away. There are some places that have over 1200 chords which is by far too many for the beginning player and probably for many accomplished players.

If you want to be able to start playing in a few days, trying to learn all of these chords is not going to help. Using the basic guitar chords chart will allow you to look at the information until you learn it and you will know where your fingers are supposed to go and the music will be flowing in a few days.

How to Learn Piano Notes

Posted By Ryan Edward on May 21, 2009 @ 10:27 am
by Michelle Edward

Have you ever stopped to consider exactly how much you do or don’t know about playing the piano? Consider the following information and compare it to your own knowledge.

Have you heard of the song Auld Lang Syne? If you know it, then it’s easy and fast to learn to play it on the piano. This song is a great way to learn the piano notes, which is one of the first steps in learning to play the piano.

Take a look at the piano keys and pay attention to the black notes. Auld Lang Syne is played on five separate black keys.

Many people believe that it’s tough to learn piano notes. But expert players will tell you differently. As long as you are committed to practicing, you can learn piano notes fast and easy.

Whether you have a piano teacher who is guiding you, or whether you learned to play the piano on your own with the help of a CD, DVD, or book, you need to learn the letter names of both the white and black notes on the piano.

If you want to learn all the notes, you should have your own piano. If you don’t have one at home, then you should start shopping for one. You can’t learn the notes by simply imagining a piano. You have to touch the piano keys and know the sound of the notes. This will make learning a lot easier and faster.

You should also practice visualization techniques in order to envision the keyboard in your mind and identify the precise location of each note. The Grand Staff that you find on a music score is a map of the keyboard that you will easily be able to interpret once you have learned the notes. The ability to instantaneously identify a note on the piano will help you understand chord lessons effortlessly.

For instance, you’re playing the first seven tab notes. This is the C - major scale and you’re playing the notes CDEFGAB.

Sometimes, the most important things about a particular topic aren’t very obvious. Continue reading to get a better understanding.

As you go through your lessons, you will know about the other scales and their respective notes. You have to memorize all the notes on the keyboard to effectively play the piano. But of course, you will learn to play the simpler notes first.

Once you’ve mastered the simple notes, you can go to much more difficult notes. Remember, you should not forget about the notes that you have already learned because you will be using them when playing advanced piano music.

If you really just want to play basic music on your piano, then at a minimum, you must learn at least two different keys for each scale. Let’s say you’re playing a major C chord.

The notes on this scale include C, E, and G. You can always play these notes simultaneously and you can already create the simplest piano music. But if you want to learn to play the advanced piano pieces, memorize and know all the notes by heart. Soon enough, you can play the piano like the experts.

So, you must understand that learning each piano note is no joke. It’s a tough task, and an important exercise in memorization. Visualize the piano keys in your head to memorize the note of each key.

Take a couple of minutes each day to do this. Don’t stop until you have memorized all of the piano notes. Hold on to the mental picture of the piano in your mind, since that can help you down the road.

Learn piano notes at an early stage, as soon as you start your piano lessons. This way, you can learn the chords much easier. Playing the piano is fun but you have to be patient.

Now that wasn’t hard at all, was it? And you’ve earned a wealth of knowledge, just from taking some time to study an expert’s word on playing piano.

Tips on Learning the Electric Guitar

Posted By Matthew James on @ 7:01 am
by Matthew James

Before you start your guitar classes, it would be wise to do some practice on your own. Look up information at a store or go on the web. Learning before class starts will give you a head start and help you get really good. You don’t want to fall behind in class and the best way to become great is to practice.

However, you don’t want to rely fully on online guides and books. You need a teacher and whether you take a class or get a private teacher, make sure that you have someone there to help you and answer your questions. Moreover, make sure the person is good so they can help teach you tricks and little secrets you might not find elsewhere.

You can visit message boards to get advice from professional guitar players. These people have playing electric guitar as their professional work or as their main hobby. Such experts spend their spare time helping beginners on learning the necessary techniques in playing the electric guitar. Getting tips from them on learning electric guitars is going to be a great help.

Electric guitar classes are very helpful. Your teacher will be able to teach your proper hand positions and the correct way to hold a guitar. These are important parts about learning the electric guitar because if you do it the wrong way, you could hurt your wrist. A guitarist with a bad wrist is someone who will never be able to succeed.

Make sure that you buy your own guitar. Start with a nylon guitar as it is the best way to learn a new guitar and get your fingers used to strumming the guitar. This guitar is commonly used by beginners. After you get used to this, you can upgrade to electric guitars. By this time, your fingers should have already developed tolerance for constant contact with strings. Learning electric guitar in this manner is better, since you build up on the basic aspects.

Guitars are easy to learn. You don’t need to be a musical Mozart. If you have a good teacher and practice a lot, you will find that it is easy to pick up the guitar. Electric guitars are popular to play because everyone wants to be a rocker. Few people do because they lack the perseverance. Hang in there and you will make it to the top.
