Discovering The UK In A Camper Van

Posted By stevenlocke on September 2, 2010 @ 4:17 am

I was recently talking to a neighbour of mine who owns a very impressive camper van which is why I have decided to write this article, his name is John. John and his wife provide one way links and John also works part-time at a gym in Birmingham. They are from Birmingham and live in a flat which is their base in the UK to return to when they were not travelling abroad. They plan to travel around different parts of the UK as well as visiting other countries in the world.

I must admit that I would love to do a similar thing to enable me to have a break from the stresses and strains of being a website content copywriter.

John and his wife are both dog lovers who have two dogs of their own. They have never enjoyed leaving these dogs with friends or in kennels when they have been travelling in the past and now they do not have to, as there is plenty of room of course in the camper van.

When talking with John I asked him where he was planning to travel to next. “I am planning to drive South on the M5 towards the SW Coast of England”. He would tour through parts of Devon and Cornwall stopping for a few days in different areas. I enquired as to what day he was expecting to return - “I am not sure really - it all depends on the weather”. Maybe one week or four, I am not sure yet Steve, he said. I could not believe his attitude and his lifestyle, I have to say I was very jealous. What freedom, I thought to myself.

John continued that he plans to travel to Portugal in the next weeks but that there is no rush - it seems to me as if John never rushes anything! This is an important lesson that I need to learn. I wish I had started to do this years ago, but what with work it was impossible really, he continued.

I also have a dog and would love to have this form of travel freedom. I have spoken to my wife about it and she has said that she would prefer to stop in a hotel. In reality my retirement is many years away - you never know by the time the day does arrive she may well have started to like the idea.

Take A Weekend Break To London Hotels

Posted By stevenlocke on August 29, 2010 @ 7:45 pm

London successfully combines a broad range of cultural influences with a strong sense of character, and is one of the world’s great cities. The capital sprawls for over 30 miles either side of the River Thames, its main artery and the city’s lifeblood. Spoilt for choice, many visitors from the UK and Europe choose to limit their exposure to London’s lights by booking a weekend city break to the capital. And it’s easy to see why a weekend spent shopping, eating out and taking in the sights is such a popular option. The capital’s shops, restaurants and theatres are famous the world over. Whether you’re visiting for the first or the hundredth time, it’s always well worth checking out the London hotels deals to be found online.

Hitting the Shops

Start your weekend trip by heading west and hitting the shops. As well the most exclusive brands and familiar high street names, you’ll find department stores that have become national institutions, such as Liberty, Selfridges and John Lewis. But if you’re looking to pick up a bargain, check out London’s street and covered markets. Hop on the tube to Portobello Road, where you’ll find a meandering street market crammed with great stalls selling bric-a-brac, antiques and new and second-hand clothes. Or, situated in the heart of London’s East End, the covered market in Spitalfields is great for hip accessories and vintage fashion.

London for Foodies

Following a long day spent trawling the shops, you’ll almost certainly be craving a good meal. Luckily, London boasts an abundance of top restaurants, where you can either grab a quick bite to eat or something more substantial. Many show-goers opt for one of the wide range of restaurants in Soho or Covent Garden, just a short walk from some of the capital’s main theatres. However, if you would like something a bit different, you can find restaurants serving cuisine from every corner of the globe in London. Curry-lovers flock to Brick Lane, in the heart of London’s Bangladeshi community, but, for a little less well-trodden path, the Vietnamese restaurants that line the Kingsland Road are a delicious and affordable option. For fine dining in the capital, head to the luxury London hotels, where Michelin-starred chefs, such as Alain Ducasse and Marcus Wareing, have restaurants.

Curtain Up

In 2007, over 13 million people went to see a show at one of London’s theatres. London’s famous theatres offer something for everyone, ranging from Shakespeare at The Globe to West End musicals.  Sondheim and Lloyd Webber classics continue to get packed crowds dancing in the aisles, Denys Lasdun’s National Theatre puts on world premieres by the some of the most famous living playwrights, while the rebuilt Globe Theatre stages critically acclaimed productions of Shakespeare’s plays throughout the summer.

London’s dynamism and the constant creation of new cultural, shopping and culinary attractions mean it will continue to be a popular destination for weekend getaways with visitors from the UK and all over Europe. Whether you’re visiting London for the first time or taking the chance to see things you haven’t before, you can be confident of finding some great – and surprisingly affordable – London hotels online.

Mix things up a little bit and discover a vacation different than one you’ve ever been on. It’s true that Canada is close to home, but that doesn’t mean you’ll end up on another bland vacation. The vast amounts of wilderness in Canada seem to go on forever, the cities are bright and full of friendly people, and the landscapes look like something straight out of painting. With a passport or passport card, you can see and experience all of this first-hand. And having your passport renewal expedited gets you there even quicker.

It’s these services that take the hassle out of preparing for trips. Sites like USpassportnow.com feature tons of helpful and useful services in a completely safe and secure way. Just looking at a www.uspassportnow.com review will show you how satisfied their customers have been with their safe and reliable passport services.

Meeting the majestic whales of Newfoundland is one of the coolest things to do while visiting. Seeing these marine giants is truly an otherworldly type of experience, and prepare to be left completely bereft of breath. These whales are bigger than you think, and actually seeing them launch out of the water and come splashing down is pretty humbling, not to mention it completely changes your perspective on nature.

Just walking around or hiking the unbeaten paths of Newfoundland is incredible. The interesting rock formations and landscapes are the product of millions of years of tectonic plate movement, and whether it’s getting lost in the wilder parts of Newfoundland or its quaint seaside villages, you are bound to walk away with some amazing experiences under your belt. Walking or biking along the coast is a great way to experience the fresh, salty air and maybe even see some whales or glaciers while you’re at it. Taking a hike or trekking the unexplored parts of Newfoundland is another great way to connect with nature.

Many would attest that the many lighthouses of Newfoundland are living works of art. Hundreds of these beacons dot the coastal landscapes of Newfoundland, and have been since 1831 when the first permanent lighthouse was built. Some of these lighthouses have been turned into museums, restaurants, and even bed and breakfasts, so exploring them becomes even more interesting. There is very little that can compare to the sight of a lighthouse, high on a cliff, looking down on the crashing waves of a deep blue sea, and in Newfoundland, you are bound to see some of these spectacles for yourself.

Most importantly, enjoy the time you have on vacation, even more so if you aren’t able to travel very often. Vacations are the sparks that ignite a fire of family memories. Getting out and seeing the world is not only fun, but also incredibly educational, and the things you learn while traveling can’t be learned in a classroom. By helping people all over the country get their US passport renewal expedited quickly and easily, they have sent all sorts of families all over the world.

Minor Tours And Walking Holidays At Crete Hotels

Posted By stevenlocke on August 26, 2010 @ 2:09 pm

With lofty mountain ranges dotted throughout the island, stunning scenery, fine sandy beaches and hot climate, Crete is deservedly one of the Mediterranean’s most popular holiday destinations. . Away from its picturesque coastal resorts, Crete’s interior is a mixture of fertile plains and craggy limestone mountains, the wilder parts remain unspoilt by commercial tourism and are rarely explored save by goatherds and, increasingly, walking enthusiasts. From characterful bed and breakfasts to modern beachfront accommodation, there are plenty of Crete hotels that are ideal for walking holidays.

The largest of the Greek islands, Crete’s climate can vary from one region to the next. However, on the whole, the weather on the island is typical of what you would expect from the Mediterranean, namely mild winters and long hot summers. Most hikers avoid visiting the island from late October through to April due to colder temperatures and the greater likelihood of rain. Wild flowers on the island start coming into bloom in April, when many hikers and walkers choose to visit the island. A further positive to booking a walking holiday to Crete out of season is that hotels, restaurants and beaches are significantly less busy.

If you’re considering going on a walking holiday for the first time, it is well worth taking the time to invest in a sturdy pair of walking boots, as well as a good hat to protect you from the intense summer sun. Also, since it’s likely you will find yourself walking during the hottest part of the day, be sure to pack plenty of sun cream and to drink lots of water.

Hiking in the West of Crete

Hidden coves and a ruggedly dramatic landscape await walking enthusiasts in the largely unspoilt west of Crete, which is considered one of the best places to walk and hike on the island.  Ancient pathways and shepherds trails criss-cross the western portion of the country – many unused except by wild goats or curious travellers. If you want to explore this enchanting landscape while on holiday at one of the many fantastic Crete hotels, there are some useful websites that are worth checking out, or, alternatively, the staff at your hotel should be able to provide you with maps and information about routes.

Asterousia Mountains

The south of the island is overlooked by the Asterousia Mountains, which offer breathtaking views and a number of important archaeological sites. The climb to the top of Crete’s highest mountain, Mount Kofinas, is reasonably accessible but, at 1,231 metres, it is perhaps not for the fainthearted. Cretan ancestral villages and long-standing traditions are diligently preserved by its inhabitants, and hikers staying at Crete hotels and exploring its remoter regions can expect to encounter a distinctive culture and atmosphere quite unlike anything they might find on the other Greek islands.

Volunteering Opportunities Abroad

Posted By stevenlocke on August 24, 2010 @ 10:23 pm

Volunteer projects abroad are part of the new ‘Voluntourism’ trend which is a sector in the fastest growing industry in the world, the travel and tourism industry. Whether you decide to volunteer in Tanzania working abroad or why not choice placement that is a little further off the beaten track. This type of activity is paid for by the volunteer themselves. The cost their payment covers includes flights to their destination wherever in the world that might be. It also covers the placement aspect of their project including accommodation, food and in a lot of cases the transport in the country.

Voluntourism requires the volunteer to pay for their time abroad as a package. It is debated as to why people have to pay to volunteer but unaware these costs would hit them sooner or later. Companies only charge the volunteer for the aspects for the trip that is relevant to them. People think all volunteers are effectively ripping them off but don’t realise these are all things that they have to pay for anyway. Sometimes this aspect is overlooked and the volunteer thinks the trip will be free.

Voluntourism appears to have taken off even more so over the past couple of years because of the struggling economies and the difficulty to get jobs Volunteering gives people another option to improve their CV and experience something different and unique in life. This in many cases gives the person a lot more self-confidence and awareness of the world around them which employers look on very positively.

Volunteering is happening all around us. Millions of people from all over the world go to many third world and developing countries to help aid the local people. There is also many other types of volunteering including that in your local community. People volunteer at big events including music and sporting events. It is something that seems to be more prevalent and popular now a day’s so why don’t you give it a go.

Theme Parks May Be Good But What About Another UK Holiday?

Posted By stevenlocke on August 21, 2010 @ 5:45 pm

There are a lot of people nowadays that head out out to a theme park at least once a year, I understand this as there are plenty of great theme parks. Of course these are not going to be as good as the ones in Florida or in the USA in general and a lot of the staff members really are a bit miserable at the British Parks but hey. But hey, they are still great fun and worth a visit if you fancy something to do in a day but what if you want something a bit more.

UK family holidays aresomething that not many people tend to turn to when it comes to things in general because they feel a proper holiday usually involves actually going abroad which is just not true at all. Britain is actually a fantastic place to take a vacation at which is something a lot of people don’t think of. You can do anything from going on dancing holidays to having one of those relaxing spa breaks.

Although there are some theme parks in the country that you could actually spend a few days at I would still not see that this is a worthy holiday for the year. You need to find a location in Britain that you really fancy going to and just stay there for a good couple of weeks. Doing this will mean that you get to see a bit more of Britain which is great news indeed, if you are stuck for places to go then I would consider somewhere like Scotland because it is beautiful.

So the next time you are thinking about taking a vacation don’t automatically choose a theme park and spend a couple of days there, try somewhere else in Britain for a week or so, you will not be disappointed.

All in all just make sure you have a good time.
